Bula Vinaka from Fiji's bronze medal winning Men's Golf team

The 4 man Fijian Golf team will leave for home with a bronze medal - and fond memories of Samoa and the 2019 Pacific Games.

They were third behind New Caledonia who won gold and host nation, Samoa, silver in the 14 team tournament.

“I’m so happy, excited, and pleased with the boys and their performance today,” said Fiji’s team manager, James Krishna. “We had three practice rounds and the mission was to win a medal. We’re so happy we have won bronze for our country.”

He continued: “As for the next one, we will go for gold.”

The team from Fiji gave it their best on the day and couldn’t be happier with the competition venue, Royal Samoa Golf Course at Fagali’i.

Men's team podium, gold for New Caledonia, Samoa takes the silver and Fiji the bronze (Trina Edwards/Pacific Games News)

“When we arrived Friday last week, we were able to practice for four days before the Games commenced. We had a very good look at the course and how it is designed, the green layout and the landscaping.”

It has been an amazing experience for the team, and they could relate to the 2019 Games slogan.

“One in Spirit means united we stand, divided we fall. We have been united throughout this event. We love the people of Samoa. Samoa, thank you so much,” Krishna added.

The programme with schools adopting a Pacific Island Nation and learning about their culture that has taken Samoa by storm really attracted the attention of Krishna and his team during their stay.

“Samoans are great people, very friendly, everywhere Team Fiji goes there’s a message for us, ‘bula’ so thank you, Samoa, vinaka.”
